State of Origin is the
state or territory from which something originates. It is also the name
used in Australia for one existing sporting event which involves
domestic representative teams. The term, when used in isolation, usually
refers to rugby league football, and occasionally Australian Football
matches, in which players are selected for the Australian states or
territories where they either first played (hence the name ‘state of
origin’) or played the majority of their junior football. The concept
mirrors international representative rules in other sports. The annual
State of Origin series is now one of Australia’s most popular sporting
events.

2012 NRL State of Origin Game 2 Preview:
The mighty maroons will fight to the very end at the second NRL State
of Origin game in 2012, with the State of origin game being palyed at
ANZ Stadium in Sydney its bound to be very hard clash for both teams.
NSW have made just two changes to the
side that valiantly lost to Queensland in Melbourne on May 23, with
Manly’s Anthony Watmough and Penrith debutant Tim Grant coming into the
squad at the expense of Watmough’s Manly teammates Jamie Buhrer and Tony
Williams. While Watmough made his Origin debut in 2005, he has played
just seven games, including two off the bench last year. NSW will enjoy
the advantage of playing at Homebush’s ANZ Stadium, where they won game
two 18-8 last year. However, Queensland have enjoyed more prosperous
times in ‘enemy territory’ of late, winning four in a row from
2008-2010.
Queensland, as expected, have named an
unchanged starting 17 in a quest for their seventh straight series win,
with the only additions being Brisbane’s Corey Parker and prodigious
Canterbury fullback Ben Barba as 18th and 19th man respectively. Parker
has been named as cover for Matt Scott, who is in doubt due to a family
illness.
